A Metadata Integration Framework for

چکیده
Semantic heterogeneity is the problem of determining whether a set of documents describe the same information. Two different documents may belong to different document types, using different document schemas, which makes it difficult to determine whether the two documents describe the same kinds of information. To deal with the problem, metadata can be used to provide a uniform interface to a corpus of documents with heterogeneous document types, analogous to the integration of autonomous databases in a federated database arrangement. This service is provided through an integration architecture, in which metadata conforming to a unified metadata schema are used to describe the information in documents common among all document types. With the integration architecture in place, advanced query mechanisms can be built on top of it to allow integrated, transparent queries to be formulated. This thesis demonstrates how metadata can be used to solve the semantic heterogeneity problem. Insights are presented that describes the kinds of metadata that are suitable for capturing data common among the variety of document types encountered in the GIS community, with a description for a model of an integration architecture to best capture the common metadata, along with an appropriate metadata classification to meaningfully structure the metadata. Information is presented on how the extracted metadata can be subsequently used in the creation of concepts in an ontology-like structure. Finally, a basic architecture establishes how to per-

Multifaceted Exploitation of Metadata for Attribute Match Discovery in Information Integration
Automating semantic matching of attributes for the purpose of information integration is challenging, and the dynamics of the Web further exacerbate this problem. Believing that many facets of metadata can contribute to a resolution, we present a framework for multifaceted exploitation of metadata in which we gather information about potential matches from various facets of metadata and combine...
متن کاملUMRR: Towards an Enterprise-Wide Web of Models
Metadata that describes the structure and semantics of data sources takes a significant role in enterprise information integration. Enterprise information integration always involves an increasing set of types of metadata that are dispersed in various repositories, modeled by various tools, represented in various formats. There is a crucial requirement to break the “Tower of Babel” among differ...
متن کاملIntegration of MATER and EMF
This paper describes how to integrate EMF with the MATER metamodelling framework. It covers first, how EMF is used to implement MATER. Then XMI model import to MATER is described including import of EMF models. Finally, the direct integration on meta-model level is discussed.
متن کاملEnterprise Integration in Metadata Environment
Metadata play crucial role in enterprise interoperability between business, service and information layers. Metadata in different form, such as the abstract of system structure, aggregation of information, repository and semantic mediation play different role to achieve the integration interoperability, so each type of metadata contribute their value to enterprise integration. As misalignment w...
متن کاملTowards a Comprehensive Methodological Framework for Semantic Integration of Heterogeneous Data Sources
Nowadays, data can be represented and stored by using different formats ranging from non structured data, typical of file systems, to semistructured data, typical of Web sources, to highly structured data, typical of relational database systems. Therefore, the necessity arises to define new models and approaches for uniformly handling datasources having different formats and structures, and obt...
